EmCees

Masters of Ceremony (EmCees) at HOPE serve as stage managers to ensure the three speaker tracks stay on schedule. EmCees greet incoming presenters and make sure their audio/visual needs are understood. They introduce the speaker, and help the speaker to manage audience questions & answers. EmCees need to monitor the Matrix chat for questions for the speaker. EmCees have the key role of making sure presenters end on time, so the next presenter can take the stage.

InfoDesk

The HOPE_16 information desk is the nexus for all types of information, as well as sign-ups for 4th track and Hackers Got Talent. InfoDesk people have all the info, and if they don't they know where to get it.

Network operations

HOPE has a network operations center (NOC) that runs continuously from Thursday evening. Because HOPE relies on the St. John's campus for network infrastructure, the NOC is mostly about managing the network throughout the event. This includes operating our own service to provide the HOPE network SSID. The NOC can escalate issues as needed to St. John's.

In Matrix, keep an eye on speaker tracks in case of a problem, and also monitor the other channels to help ensure discussion is respectful.

Workshop helpers

Workshop helpers assist workshop presenters with setting up and running their workshop. Check with the presenter about what sort of assistance is needed - some workshops desire a helper throughout the workshop, and others just need a little help to get set up and for the workshop to be underway. As space allows, workshop helpers are welcome to participate in the workshop. There are three workshop tracks, and a workshop helper might assist more than one workshop.
